Shine Through Your 30s

Welcome to your fabulous 30s – a time of life filled with personal growth, career advancement and evolving beauty. As you navigate this vibrant decade, your skin requires more attention and care than it did in your 20s, explains our skincare expert Ingrid, salon beauty therapist.

Hitting 30: what happens to our skin?

The 30s bring about noticeable changes in our skin’s texture and tone. You may start to see fine lines, a slight loss of firmness, or changes in pigmentation says Ingrid. This is due to a natural decline in collagen and elastin production, and slower cell turnover.

But don’t worry, it’s never too late to start investing in your skin and, with the right care, it can continue to look its best.

Invest in a skincare routine

Now is the time to get serious about skincare – no more flopping into bed with your makeup still on.

If you don’t have a daily routine, why not book a consultation with one of our skincare experts? We’ll examine your skin, chat through any concerns and tailor a routine for you.

As a starting point, Ingrid recommends a cleanser, serum, moisturiser, and sunscreen in the mornings. And at night, a cleanser, serum and moisturiser.

Building on these basics, we can then tailor in eye creams, exfoliators and masks, all supported by regular professional salon treatments.

Prevention is better than cure

Incorporate anti-ageing products into your skincare routine now if you haven’t done so already, advises Ingrid.

1. Sun shield

Sun damage is cumulative, and its effects can become more pronounced in your 30s. Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen every day, even on cloudy days, to protect your skin from harmful UVA and UVB rays.

And remember to protect your neck and hands too.

2. Your 30s game-changer

If retinol isn’t already in your skincare routine, now’s the time to try it. Retinol increases collagen production which improves skin elasticity and reduces the appearance of fine lines. Your skin looks younger, brighter and smoother.

“There are some important do’s and don’ts you need to know before starting a course of retinol treatment,” says Ingrid “So book a consultation with Ingrid to find out more about it and how it might help you.”

3. Nurture and protect

The skin around the eyes has virtually no oil glands and is usually the first to show signs of ageing so protecting this area with a specifically formulated eye cream as early as possible is a priority.

30s Lifestyle and skincare

A holistic approach to skincare in your 30s involves more than just products and treatments.

A balanced diet with plenty of fruit and vegetables, staying hydrated, managing stress, not smoking, and getting enough sleep are all crucial for maintaining healthy skin. Regular exercise not only keeps your body fit but also increases blood flow, giving your skin a healthy glow.
